The 4 major kitchen cooking appliances are:
Stoves come in basically 3 styles, the freestanding stove, slide-in stove, & the drop-in stove. The freestanding stove is by far the most popular with the drop-in stove least popular. Stoves will either be sold in electric, gas(Natural gas or LP gas), or what they call dual fuel. The dual fuel offers a stove top that is gas and the oven is electric.
Freestanding stoves are just that, they are freestanding with 3 sides of the cabinet finished and a high back panel that houses some or all of its controls. These stoves in electric will have all the controls on the back panel. The gas version will have the oven controls on the back panel, while the cooktop controls are on the front panel of the unit.
Slide-in stoves may or may not have full finished sides. They do support themselves on the ground, and do not have a back panel. All controls in both electric and gas versions are on the front panel of the unit.
Drop-in stoves are the least popular in today’s market. Back in the 60’s & 70’s, this style was very popular, but now only a handful of models are made. Drop-in stoves drop into a cabinet made for this type of stove. They do not sit on the ground and have no bottom drawer. They also do not have any back panels and all controls, both electric and gas, are on the front panel like a slide-in stove.
